POHANG, June 28 (Korea Bizwire) — A paragliding event for disabled persons with spinal cord injuries took place on Friday at Mount Gonryun in the southeastern city of Pohang.
The Pohang Paragliding Association, in response to a request from the Korea Spinal Cord Injury Association, acquired specially made wheelchairs and recruited experienced paragliders for the event.
A considerable amount of time was spent bringing the disabled paragliders to the paragliding field and getting them on the specially made wheelchairs.
While paragliders normally land on flat grass fields or sand, the disabled landed at a local beach parking lot at the foot of the mountain, in consideration of the wheelchairs.
Participating in the event were 17 disabled individuals and 10 volunteers. Each paragliding session, which normally costs around 130,000 won (US$115) per person, was offered free of charge.
