SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — Disney’s Zootopia 2 has become South Korea’s top-grossing film of the year, overtaking its competitors just 23 days after its release, according to data released Thursday by Walt Disney Company Korea.
The animated sequel surpassed 5.69 million cumulative admissions on Thursday afternoon, edging out the year’s previous leaders — Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle (5.681 million) and Zombie Daughter (5.639 million) — within a single day.
It marks the first time a Disney animated film has claimed the No. 1 spot in Korea’s annual box-office rankings. While Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 drew nearly 8.8 million viewers last year, it ultimately finished third behind two Korean blockbusters that crossed the 10-million threshold. The same was true for Frozen 2, which sold 13.76 million tickets in 2019 but was still outpaced by Extreme Job and Avengers: Endgame that year.
Zootopia 2, which follows the continued adventures of police duo Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps, has far surpassed the first film’s performance in Korea; the original drew 4.71 million viewers in 2016. The sequel also achieved the fastest climb to 5 million admissions among films released this year, holding the No. 1 daily box-office position for 21 consecutive days.
Globally, the film is proving to be a powerhouse as well. As of Dec. 15, Zootopia 2 had generated US$1.136 billion in worldwide ticket sales, making it the highest-grossing Hollywood release of 2025 to date.
