SEOUL, Mar. 25 (Korea Bizwire) — As spring is coming, more and more people are turning to do-it-yourself (DIY) projects to redecorate their homes.
In particular, DIY painting, which offers both time and cost savings, is drawing attention to changing the mood of one’s home by choosing new colors for walls and furniture.
Auction, an online market, announced on Sunday that sales of paint for the interior jumped 21 percent year on year in the recent month.
The number contrasts with a 29 percent drop in wallpaper sales and a 15 percent drop in sheet paper sales during the same period.
In detail, sales of DIY paint, which is easy for beginners to use, increased by 37 percent, and sales of waterproof paint for kitchen use increased by 61 percent.
While eco-friendly paint increased in sales by 16 percent, spray paint increased by 74 percent.
This is because paints and tools have been diversified so that people can paint easily by themselves.
In addition, people can easily give themselves a dramatic mood change by using paint at a lower cost than wallpaper or sheet paper, which were commonly used for interior design in the past.
After painting the walls with the color of own’s choice, people add a props or decorative items to give a café or gallery-like ambience.
Fabric, which helps to decorate walls with hanging pictures or canvas, saw sales more than quadruple, and posters more than doubled in sales.
