SEOUL, Dec. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — A plastic surgeon was turned over for trial following the death of a Hong Kong fashion empire heiress during liposuction surgery.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday that the Seoul doctor, whose identity was withheld, had been charged with professional negligence resulting in death and violation of the Medical Services Act.
The doctor is accused professional negligence causing the woman’s death and failing to fill out medical charts during treatment.
The late Bonnie Evita Law, a 35-year-old Hong Kong citizen, was a granddaughter of the founder of Bossini International Holdings Ltd., a famous Hong Kong fashion company.
She died after falling into a coma during liposuction surgery conducted at a southern Seoul plastic surgery clinic in January of last year.
Her bereaved family filed a criminal complaint with the Seoul Gangnam Police Station, which transferred the case to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, considering the gravity of the incident.
The police found evidence of major misconduct during her medical process at the hospital and transferred the case to the prosecution in October of last year.
The prosecution, convinced by the police investigation, turned the Seoul doctor over for trial.
A consulting coordinator at the hospital was also turned over for trial after being accused of forging Law’s signature in the surgery agreement.
