SEOUL, March 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Dongkuk Steel Mill Co., South Korea’s third-largest steelmaker, said Monday that it had developed Luxteel Biomass Uniglass, a solvent-free colored steel plate.
The paint used in colored steel plates is usually made from petroleum-based solvents. When heated, it emits greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide.
What the company has developed is a colored steel plate that uses solvent-free biomass paint.
Dongkuk Steel has managed to reduce the amount of carbon emissions by more than 80 percent by adding ultraviolet (UV) curing technology on top of the solvent-free paint.
UV curing technology is an eco-friendly manufacturing tech that the company introduced last year for making colored steel plates, replacing liquid natural gas (LNG) heat-curing tech.
Dongkuk Steel plans to go through demonstrations with major clients and hold discussions on product development in March to commercialize the technology later this year.
Luxteel Biomass Uniglass can be used for home appliances like televisions, refrigerators and washing machines as well as elevators and buildings, the steelmaker said.
