Doosan Acquires Controlling Stake in Semiconductor Test Service Provider

SEOUL, March 10 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s conglomerate Doosan Group said it has acquired Tesna Inc., the nation’s top chip test service provider, jumping into the semiconductor market.

Doosan Corp., the holding company of Doosan Group, held a board meeting on Tuesday and made the final decision for the acquisition.

Doosan signed a Sales and Purchase Agreement to pay 460 billion won (US$374 million) to acquire the 38.7 percent stake held by AI Tree Limited, Tesna’s largest shareholder.

Tesna is a leading outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) company that provides test services for application processors (AP), camera image sensors (CIS), radio frequency (RF) chips and other types of semiconductors.

Tesna, in particular, has the highest market share in wafer probe test services.

The company earned 207.5 billion won in sales and 54 billion won in operating profits last year, up 56.6 percent and 76.8 percent, respectively, on year.

Doosan plans to use this initiative to add semiconductors into its’s business portfolio, alongside energy and industrial engineering.
