SEOUL, Sept. 30 (Korea Bizwire)Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) announced on Thursday that it established a land-based test site within its R&D campus in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province as part of efforts to develop eco-friendly and smart ship technology.

The newly-established facility is designed to verify the performance of propulsion systems used for ships and naval vessels.

DSME expects the test site to contribute to enhancing overall system efficiency, while improving the effectiveness of repair and maintenance of major equipment.

With this facility, it aims to concretize and upgrade the development of key electrification technologies, including electric propulsion systems.

The company also plans to lay a foundation for the development of next-generation eco-friendly fuel and smart ship technologies encompassing the areas of large ships and naval fleets.

Furthermore, the shipyard intends to develop a hybrid propulsion system connecting shaft generators and batteries, as well as a next-generation electrification solution that would be integrated with a fuel cell through a connection with existing eco-friendly fuel test site.
