SEOUL, Jul. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean retail giant E-mart announced on Wednesday it will sell compact electric vehicles, with plans to open a smart mobility store called ‘M Lounge’ at its Hanam location on Thursday.
A selection of vehicles running on electricity will be on sale at the new store, including electric bikes and electric skateboards, and customers will also be able to place preorders for the D2 compact electric car from Chinese carmaker Zhidou.

While the car will be on display at the shop, the official release date is expected to be in either October or November, with the price ranging from 10 to 15 million won depending on subsidies provided by each local government.
Since releasing its own ‘Pedelec’ electric bike in March, the retail giant has generated revenue of over 1 billion won from electric bikes, with market forecasts indicating the sales to grow up to 3 billion won this year.

As E-mart continues to expand its dominant presence in the smart mobility industry, the supermarket chain will also launch another M Lounge at its new Starfield Goyang store, with further plans to reach a 20 billion won sales goal in the next five years.
