SEOUL, July 19 (Korea Bizwire) — E-Mart24 Inc., the convenience store arm of South Korean retail giant Shinsegae, introduced an artificial intelligence (AI)-based unmanned liquor vending machine at its main store in Seoul’s Seongdong District on Monday.
The vending machine, similar to a liquor refrigerator, automatically processes payments after customers select their beverages of choice.
The machine’s QR code reader scans the user’s mobile driver’s license stored in the authentication mobile app PASS on their smartphones. Once the users choose the payment method and accept the use of personal information, the door opens.
Users then can take out the products that they wish to purchase. Once the door is closed, the vending machine automatically processes the payment.
The vending machine uses a display stand that detects the weight of each product, and an AI-based vision recognition system that detects what is being purchased.
