SEOUL, Oct. 5 (Korea Bizwire) – A group of inmates has achieved success by winning various open competitions after acquiring webtoon production techniques through a prison vocational training program.
This accomplishment followed the Ministry of Justice’s focused efforts to provide intensive education on technology related to the modern age of cultural content, aiming to ensure the stable social reintegration of inmates.
On Wednesday, the Ministry of Justice announced that inmates who completed the webtoon content vocational training program, a pilot initiative conducted at Seoul Southern Prison, recently participated in open competitions organized by various public organizations, including the Military Manpower Administration, municipal governments, and the Korea Electric Power Corporation.
As a result, eight inmates were awarded grand prizes and excellence awards. To date, a total of 30 inmates have completed the course, with twelve of them involved in webtoon-related prison labor under consignment contracts with external businesses.
The webtoon vocational training program is a collaboration with the Department of Webtoon Content at Yeonsung University. During this program, inmates learn the professional techniques necessary to obtain webtoon creator licenses and enhance their skills through prison labor.
This initiative aims to offer inmates opportunities to learn the values of patience and hard work, create resettlement funds for themselves, and contribute to society through collaboration with local communities after serving their prison terms.
