SEOUL, Oct. 26 (Korea Bizwire) — Electric facial masks will become available for sale in South Korea later this year, the standard agency said Monday.
The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards announced the preliminary safety standards for electric facial masks on Tuesday.
An electric mask refers to a breathing device that uses electric filters and motorized fans to keep out fine dust particles.
These devices, however, couldn’t be released in South Korea due to a lack of proper safety standards.
In response, businesses requested the drafting of new safety standards through the regulatory sandbox program, and the agency drafted the new standards based on expert consultations.
According to the new preliminary safety standards, the air entering the mask must go through the electric filters.
The base material that composes the filter should be qualified by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety standard for replaceable polypropylenes used to intercept droplets.
