GOYANG, Oct. 26 (Korea Bizwire)The municipal government in Goyang, north of Seoul, has set up a curtain vine at a local elementary school, a move that has been welcomed by the community.

The green vine curtain at Yangil Elementary School was created by growing hyacinth beans, which were first planted in May. The vines have grown to cover up to four stories of the school building.

The green curtain has climbed up 15 meters along the school walls to keep away sun rays and save energy used for air conditioning during the summer.

The vines also prevent outside noise or dust from entering indoors, adding natural beauty to the school’s outer appearance.

With autumn just around the corner, the vines are growing new hyacinth beans, which will soon be harvested.

Once the quarantine restrictions are gradually lifted starting next month, the school plans to make rice cakes with the harvested hyacinth beans and distribute them to some 1,400 students.
