Employees’ Average Monthly Wage in Seoul Stands at 2.23M Won

SEOUL, April 18 (Korea Bizwire)The average monthly wage of employees in Seoul stood at 2.23 million won (US$2,088), data showed Wednesday.

According to the data by Shinhan Bank, the average monthly wage of workers in the capital city’s Jongno district, where headquarters of big firms are located, stood at 3.55 million won.

The monthly wages of employees in the city’s Yeongdeungpo and Seocho districts were 3.2 million won and 3.12 million won, respectively.

The average monthly wage of professional workers stood at 3.77 million won for the whole city, with differences between regions.

The monthly wage of a person with a professional job in the Gangseo district was 6.14 million won, followed by 5.07 million won in Seocho and 4.49 million won in Gangnam.

Gangseo district topped the list as local airlines with well-paid pilots have their base of operations there, according to the data.

The average monthly income of self-employed people in Seoul stood at 1.72 million won last year, while that of self-employed people in Gangnam was significantly higher at 2.98 million won.

Meanwhile, the monthly income of self-employed people in the medical sector topped the list at 5.66 million won, followed by 3.23 million won for those in the restaurant business and 2.18 million won in the sports sector, the latest data showed.
