SEOUL, June 20 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean esports legend Lee Sang-hyeok, widely known by his gamer tag “Faker,” has made a private donation to support the advancement of the Seoul Regional Trauma Center, the capital’s only facility of its kind, according to the National Medical Center on Friday.
The donation amount was not disclosed by mutual agreement, but the National Medical Center noted it would inscribe Lee’s name on its first-floor “donor wall” in recognition of his contribution.
At a donation ceremony held the day prior, officials expressed gratitude to Lee and briefed him on the center’s operations, mission, and future plans. Lee received a commemorative plaque in honor of his support.
“I’ve long recognized the importance of trauma care as an essential part of the public healthcare system,” said Lee. “Through this donation, I hope more people — especially esports fans — become aware of the vital role trauma centers play and develop a deeper appreciation for essential medical services.”

Lee has been a dominant figure in the League of Legends esports scene for over a decade, earning global accolades. In recognition of his achievements, game developer Riot Games inducted him last year as the inaugural member of the League of Legends Hall of Legends.
The donation reflects a broader cultural shift as figures from South Korea’s booming digital industries, including esports, increasingly engage in philanthropy and public service, echoing national efforts under President Lee Jae-myung to strengthen essential healthcare infrastructure amid rising public demand.
