SEOUL, April 4 (Korea Bizwire) — The European Union (EU) expressed respect Friday for South Korea’s Constitution and legal proceedings after the Constitutional Court ruled to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office, while reaffirming the strategic partnership with Seoul.
“The EU respects the Constitution and legal proceedings in the Republic of Korea,” an EU spokesperson said in an English-language statement sent to Yonhap News Agency, referring to South Korea by its formal name.
“We reaffirm our close strategic partnership with the Republic of Korea, grounded in common interests and the shared values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law,” the spokesperson said.
On Friday, the Constitutional Court unanimously upheld the impeachment of suspended President Yoon over his short-lived imposition of martial law on Dec. 3.
