SEOUL, May 25 (Korea Bizwire) — An electric vehicle powered by a battery from LG Energy Solution Ltd. set a new Guinness World Record title for the highest altitude achieved by an electric car.
The Volkswagen ID.4 GTX succeeded in driving up the dormant Uturuncu volcano in Bolivia, reaching an altitude of 5,816 meters on May 18 (local time). It was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for achieving the highest altitude climb among EVs.
The ID.4 GTX is equipped with an LG Energy Solution’s 77 kilowatt-hour high-capacity and high-performance battery that offers a range of about 480 kilometers on a single charge.
This challenge for a new Guinness Record was an initiative prepared by the Challenge4 team, founded by professional long-distance driver Rainer Zietlow, to prove the safety and performance of EVs as well as to boost consumer confidence.
In 2011, the Challenge4 team achieved another Guinness Record for the longest continuous journey by electric vehicle in a single country by driving a distance of 56,000 kilometers through the 48 contiguous states of the U.S.
