YONGIN, Sept. 11 (Korea Bizwire) – Everland, a major theme park and resort complex in South Korea, announced on September 10 that its newly developed rose variety, Perfume Everscape, has demonstrated significant antioxidant properties.

The findings were published in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) international journal, “Chemical and Biological Technologies in Agriculture.”

Roses have long been valued in the cosmetics and health food industries for their natural antioxidant properties, which are believed to strengthen skin cells and aid in tissue regeneration.

Everland, in collaboration with researchers from Kyung Hee University and Konkuk University, initiated this study based on the hypothesis that their disease-resistant new rose variety might exhibit exceptional effects in preventing photoaging and oxidation.

The study focused on the Perfume Everscape, a variety that received top honors and a special award for disease resistance at the 2022 Gifu International Rose Competition in Japan. Extract from this rose showed remarkable antioxidant effects.

Kim Kyung-sook, a professor at Kyung Hee University School of Medicine who led the research, explained, “Perfume Everscape roses contain various types of polyphenols and flavonoids known for their excellent antioxidant and anti-aging effects, confirming their superior anti-aging function.”

Ha Ho-su, a professional at Everland responsible for developing new rose varieties, stated, “We are conducting in-depth research to present roses that are not only more fragrant but also healthier for our customers.”

He added, “We will strive to ensure that the excellent characteristics of our domestically developed roses can be utilized in various fields.”

Everland, which pioneered South Korea’s first rose festival in 1985, has been actively pursuing the domestication of roses since 2013. The company conducts over 1,500 breeding studies annually and has developed 37 new rose varieties to date.

In a recent development, Everland has finalized an export contract with Japan for two of its new rose varieties, including Perfume Everscape and Garden Everscape.
