SEOUL, March 20 (Korea Bizwire) – Each and every one of 400 Bolt EV cars set to be delivered here next month was sold in just the first few hours of taking orders, GM Korea Co. said Saturday, reflecting an apparently high interest by local consumers in the new electric car.

The company began taking preorders for the Chevrolet Bolt EV on Friday.

“All 400 units in the first shipment were gone in just two hours,” said an official from the South Korean unit of U.S. automaker General Motors Co. “The company will seek a way to secure additional units to meet waiting demand.”

No exact date has been set for the local deliveries of the vehicle, with GM Korea only saying the car will be officially launched here in April.

The Bolt is currently built in the U.S. only, meaning each unit to be sold here must be shipped from the U.S.

The full-electric car has a maximum driving range of 383 kilometers per charge, the longest among all electric vehicles currently available, GMKorea has said.

The local price of the car starts at 47.79 million won (US$42,254).

However, the company noted the actual price a customer must pay could be less than 22 million won, or $20,000, when considering various incentives from the local government, which could add up to as high as 26 million won.’
