Kim, an office worker, was crossing the intersection of Bendemeer and Boon Keng when he was caught under a 12 meter long trailer after being hit. Locals who heard Kim scream came running, and 30 people pushed the trailer to save him.

The site of the accident was near an office district, which made it possible for Kim to be rescued quickly since many workers were out on their lunch breaks and were able to help him.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), a governmental organization in Singapore, gave an award to nine brave citizens who rescued Kim. They had various nationalities, ranging from Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia to India.

Locals are calling them ‘Samaritans’, after the Samaritan that helps a person who was robbed in the Bible.

The Association of Korean Residents in Singapore invited these people to thank them. Asiana Airlines also thanked the brave citizens, and presented them with tickets for a round trip to Korea. The Korea National Tourist Organization will pay for their visit, and guide them around tourist spots.

Roy Allen Kallibusso from the Philippines expressed his gratitude. “We didn’t think at all when we were rescuing that person. We only had one thought – to save the person under the trailer. It was a miracle we made all together. I am very thankful for the letter of appreciation and the chance to tour Korea. I hope to know more about the country through this opportunity.”

Noh Jong-hyun, the head of the Association of Korean Residents in Singapore, commented on the incident. “The story also made news in Singapore. We are so thankful that one of us was rescued by the citizens of Singapore, especially when they are from various nationalities. We are providing them with letters of appreciation in hopes that the two countries can have stronger relations.”
