‘Exhuma’ Leads Box Office, Exceeding 8 Mln Admissions

SEOUL, Mar. 11 (Korea Bizwire)The supernatural thriller “Exhuma” maintained its position as the top-grossing movie at present, data showed Monday.

According to the data from the Korean Film Council, the film led the weekend box-office chart, attracting 1.27 million viewers from Friday to Sunday.

Released Feb. 22, the movie surpassed 8 million cumulative viewers Sunday. It took 18 days for the film to reach the mark, a week shorter than last year’s highest-grossing film, “12.12: The Day,” a historical saga depicting South Korea’s military coup in 1979.

The film “Exhuma,” starring Choi Min-sik and Kim Go-eun, revolves around two shamans, a feng shui expert and a mortician who join forces to investigate a string of mysterious occurrences affecting a wealthy family based in the U.S. They embark on this journey by exhuming the grave of the family’s ancestor in a remote Korean village.

The Hollywood blockbuster “Dune: Part Two” landed at No. 2 on the weekend box-office chart with 292,000 moviegoers, bringing its total admissions to 1.28 million. “Wonka” ranked third, drawing 80,741 moviegoers over the weekend. Its total admissions reached 3.4 million. Emma Stone’s “Poor Things” debuted at No. 4 on the chart with 38,000 admissions.
