Expressway Service Areas Introduce Service Robots

SEOUL, April 26 (Korea Bizwire)The Korea Expressway Corp., which manages South Korea’s highways across the nation, has introduced a variety of robot services for trial in response to the current contactless consumption trends following the coronavirus outbreak.

The Hwaseong Service Area (Mokpo Bound) on the Seohaean Expressway introduced a coffee-making robot that operates 24 hours a day and can brew six different kinds of coffee, with each cup taking around a minute.

The robot takes orders by scanning the barcode printed on the receipt after customers place their order and pay at a separate kiosk.

The service area has also introduced a frying robot that can cook six kinds of fried dishes, including french fries, and is capable of making enough food for four or five people simultaneously.

The Iseo Service Area (Suncheon Bound) on the Honam Expressway introduced a waiter robot that serves side dishes and drinks using four shelves along a preset route, and is capable of avoiding collisions with customers thanks to obstacle avoidance sensors.
