SEOUL, Korea, Nov 11 (Korea Bizwire) - The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and Samsung C&T will sign on November 11 an agreement to work together in building apartments with community-based childcare facilities and smart offices for parents who must stay home to care for children. Under the terms of the pact, the construction contractor will build facilities while the ministry focuses on providing administrative support.

The company will begin with community childcare centers at its RaemianGangdong Palace in east Seoul this year, followed by other apartments to be built afterward. The ministry currently runs a total of 67 such community childcare centers across the country and it figures the number will rise further after the agreement.

The community centers to be run jointly by Samsung C&T and the Family Ministry will be based on an idea that parents who will double as volunteer nannies can take turns to take care of the children so that the parents can save expenses while strengthening community ties. Smart offices to be open in close proximity of homes will help parents balance work and family more easily.

Minister of Gender Equality and Family Cho Yoonsun said, “There is an African saying that it takes a village to raise a child. That means child rearing and education is no longer the job of parents alone; it is the job of all of us. If our children can be cared for under warm relationship among neighborhoods, they can grow up to be better members of society.” “I hope the smart offices to be built through the latest agreement could help dual-income families balance their personal life with work better,” she added.
