SEOUL, Feb. 24 (Korea Bizwire)As the South Korean government tries to introduce an electronic card purchasing system in the gambling industry to limit per capita betting, and to reduce gambling addiction, local farmers and livestock raisers are protesting against the policy, claiming that the e-card introduction could reduce subsidies for the development of the agriculture and livestock industries.

On February 23, officials at the Emergency Committee of Farmers and Livestock Raisers for the Development of Horseracing Industry rallied in front of the annex hall of the government complex in Seoul to protest against the new policy. They argued that the implementation of an e-card system could lead to the reduction of subsidies, as it is expected to reduce lottery sales. The National Gaming Control Commission is responsible for implementing the policy in the gaming and lottery industries.
