SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Korea Bizwire)With the rise of what is known as “the body positivity movement,” whose main purpose centers around addressing unrealistic body standards, unrealistically tall and skinny mannequins are being replaced by plus-size ones.

SPAO, a specialty retailer of private label apparel (SPA) brand run by E-Land World, will introduce mannequins at some of its stores from early next month will be a realistic 172.8 and 160.9 centimeters tall for the male and female models, respectively.

This reflects the average height of Korean men and women between 25 and 35 years of age. Previously, male and female mannequins were 190 centimeters and 184 centimeters tall.

To reflect the true shape of men and women, the waist size of the mannequins will also be increased by 2.3 inches for the male models and 5.9 inches for female models.

Another local fashion giant Kolon FnC unveiled a new brand for average shaped men in March, while releasing pants with a realistic length.

The new pants are about 10 centimeters shorter than those currently selling in the market, thereby eliminating the need for customers to have the pants tailored after purchase.

The company also plans to design upper garments for this autumn and winter season to reflect average body shape, including shoulder width.
