SEOUL, April 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Spanish football giants FC Barcelona will face the K League 1 club Daegu FC in August as part of their summer trip to South Korea, officials said Tuesday.

Officials in Daegu, about 235 kilometers southeast of Seoul, said the city will finalize a deal with the promoter of Barca’s Asian trip, D-Drive Corp., in late April to bring the 27-time La Liga champions to Daegu Stadium on Aug. 3.

Daegu FC play their home matches at the football-specific Daegu iM Bank Park, but it has a capacity of 12,469. Daegu Stadium, a multipurpose venue that hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup and 2011 world athletics championships, has 66,422 seats.

According to Daegu, FC Barcelona officials visited Daegu Stadium on March 19 to inspect its facilities and check field conditions.

In a press release, Daegu noted FC Barcelona were “mostly pleased” with the stadium and that the city will keep working to get the venue ready for the big match.

D-Drive had said in February that FC Barcelona will play two matches during their South Korean stop of the summer Asian tour, with FC Seoul, another K League 1 club, as the likely opponent for the first game.

FC Barcelona previously played in South Korea in 2004 and 2010. In 2010, they took on the K League All-Star team, and Lionel Messi grabbed a brace in a 5-2 victory.

FC Barcelona are one of the most recognizable and popular clubs in football. In addition to their 27 Spanish league titles, Barca have also lifted 22 trophies in Europe and worldwide, with five UEFA Champions League titles and three FIFA Club World Cup titles.
