SEOUL, March 16 (Korea Bizwire)Korea’s first artificial sea waterway, which runs through Central Park in Songdo, Incheon passed a government water quality inspection, according to results published by the Incheon Institute of Health and Environment on March 14.

Chlorophyll-a (CHLA) concentration, which is commonly used to measure water quality, was recorded at 4.9㎎/㎥, which indicates that the waterway is quite clean. In the past, there have been concerns over the canal’s water quality as the CHLA concentration in spring 2011 was recorded at 27.6㎎/㎥. However, authorities improved their monitoring by introducing automatic water quality analyzer in August 2011.

The 4-kilometer-long waterway runs on west sea water purified by three different methods. The waterway is also home to a few fish species, such as gray mullets, mudskippers and shrimp.
