SEOUL, Feb. 15 (Korea Bizwire) – The first batch of 120 Kenbo 600s, a Chinese sport utility vehicle (SUV), sold out in South Korea, about one month after the vehicle debuted here, the Chinese car’s local importer said Wednesday.

China-Korea Motor Co., the local importer and distributor of the Chinese vehicle, unveiled the Kenbo 600 on Jan. 18, making it the first Chinese passenger vehicle to be marketed in South Korea.

The Kenbo 600, marketed as the S6 in China, is an SUV produced by BAIC Motor Corp., the passenger car-making unit of China’s state-owned BAIC Group, the fourth-largest automotive group in China by output.

“Contracts for the first batch of shipments will be completed this week,” said an official at China-Korea Motor.

Individual customers accounted for 65 percent of the initial shipment and corporate customers accounted for 35 percent, the importer said.

China-Korea Motor plans to import another batch of 200 Kenbo 600 vehicles, according to the official.

The Chinese SUV comes in two models with a starting price of 19.99 million won (US$17,471) for the Kenbo 600 Modern and 20.99 million won for the Luxury model.

The local importer of the vehicle has said customers will be able to get after-sales service at 80 shops across the country, adding that it plans to launch more passenger vehicles down the road.

China-Korea Motor aims to sell 3,000 units of the vehicle here this year, and plans to unveil electric cars next year.
