Five Asiatic Black Bears Destined for Natural Reserve on Jeju Island

JEJU, Jan. 31 (Korea Bizwire)Five Asiatic black bears, previously bred for commercial purposes, will be transferred to a park on Jeju Island.

The Jeju Provincial Government said on Wednesday that it will soon begin taking care of five Asiatic black bears at the Jeju Nature Park in the city of Seogwipo.

The bears will soon be able to freely roam around a 75㎡ habitat facility accommodated by a 1,200㎡ display zone. The bears were left abandoned at a local farm after bear bile was banned from sale.

Environmental organizations and the Ministry of Environment purchased the bears from their owners to transfer them to the park’s care.
