PEONGCHANG, Jan. 9 (Korea Bizwire)Pyeongchang-gun in Gangwon Province will have street cleaners work during the daytime starting this year to prevent them from being exposed to various kinds of accidents.

Previously, many street cleaners used to begin work before 4 a.m., despite official working hours starting at 6 a.m..

Street cleaners were constantly exposed to the danger of possible injury while working at night as the darkness compromised their sight.

In a more severe case, a street cleaner was run over by a garbage truck because the driver failed to notice him.

Working at night can also easily result in the accumulation of fatigue, which only makes it more difficult for street cleaners to cope with dangerous situations.

As such, Pyeongchang-gun changed the working hours to between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to improve the working environment for street cleaners.

The county will also provide new safety headwear, shoes, gloves, fine dust masks, and other safety equipment to minimize hazardous situations.

Pyeongchang-gun plans to employ additional workers, reallocate cleaning zones, replace old trash trucks and renovate lounges for street cleaners.
