SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s food industry is releasing a string of gift sets for next month’s Chuseok holiday using eco-friendly packaging materials.
Daesang Corp. replaced the non-woven fabric material used for gift bags with paper material. In addition, it also used paper instead of plastic to make the inner trays of giftset boxes.
With these efforts, Daesang expects to be able to cut the use of plastics by about 473 tons.
CJ Cheiljedang Corp. also released a gift set using paper for shopping bags and inner trays. It also removed vinyl labels from the surface of Spam canned hams.
Company officials noted that such efforts reduced the use of plastics by about 300 tons.
Sajo Daerim removed the plastic caps from its canned ham products and applied the new design to its gift sets.
