SEOUL, Feb. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — The South Korean football governing body said its senior executives will hold a meeting Tuesday to name a new official in charge of hiring the new men’s national team head coach.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) said its leadership group will go over candidates to lead the National Team Committee.
The KFA fired Jurgen Klinsmann last Friday, holding him accountable for South Korea’s disappointing semifinal exit from the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup. In announcing Klinsmann’s dismissal, KFA President Chung Mong-gyu also said he will overhaul the National Team Committee, which is responsible for appointing coaches for national teams across different age brackets.
Michael Muller had been the National Team Committee chief since January 2023. The KFA is expected to replace the German with a South Korean.

Chung Hae-sung, current head of the Competitions Committee at the KFA, Lee Lim-saeng, head of the KFA’s Technical Development Committee, and Lee Young-pyo, former KFA vice president and 2002 FIFA World Cup star, have been linked to the National Team Committee’s top position.
The new committee leader will face a time crunch to name Klinsmann’s successor. South Korea’s next matches will be home-and-away World Cup qualifying games against Thailand — March 21 in Seoul and March 26 in Bangkok.
