Foreign-Owned Accommodations in Jeju Increase

JEJU, Dec.10 (Korea Bizwire)Accommodation facilities owned by foreigners are increasing on Jeju Island, where more than 10 million tourists from Korea and abroad visit every year.

According to the local government, 20 properties with a total of 1,976 rooms were owned by foreigners as of September.

Among Jeju’s total of 321 properties and 24,594 rooms, those owned by foreigners amounted to 6.2 percent of the properties and 8 percent of the rooms.

It was reported that nine new facilities opened this year, while six opened last year, two each in 2013 and 2012, and one in 2011.

The majority of the foreign owners were Chinese, owning 18 of the properties. A Canadian and Australian owner each owned one property.

In the meantime, ‘Chiten’, an affiliate of China’s Hotel Giant Botao, held a conference to lure investment as it announced plans to expand to Jeju.
