SEOUL, June 29 (Korea Bizwire) — Foreign streaming services such as YouTube and Netflix scored higher than domestic services in a recent user satisfaction survey.
According to a user satisfaction survey report released on Monday by the state-run Korea Information Society Development Institute, YouTube marked a score of 0.83 in user satisfaction, followed by Netflix at 0.57, Tving at 0.33 and Wavve at 0.22.
Wavve and Tving are local streaming services created by Content Wavve Corp. and CJ ENM, respectively.
The survey was conducted with domestic users of streaming services who reported using such services within one month of the date of survey. The results of the survey were based on the average score of two items – service content and user experience.
Even in the survey of whether or not they would like to continue to use the streaming service, YouTube and Netflix scored 1.01 and 0.50, respectively, higher than 0.26 for Wavve and 0.22 for Tving.
The largest share of the respondents picked home as the place where they enjoy streaming services, while the frequency of using such services in other places declined compared to a year ago.
The report noted that such results reflect the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In response to a question (multiple answers possible) asking what streaming services they subscribed to on a monthly fixed-rate basis, 26.4 percent picked Netflix, followed by YouTube Premium at 12.7 percent.
In the meantime, 90.6 percent of the respondents said that they had used YouTube within the past month, followed by Netflix at 32.9 percent and Naver TV at 30.7 percent.
