SEOUL, Dec. 16 (Korea Bizwire) —  Starting January 2, South Korea will allow foreign residents to file mandatory employment information online, easing a long-standing administrative burden, the Ministry of Justice said Tuesday.

Foreign nationals engaged in profit-making work are legally required to report their occupation and income, and to file updates within 15 days of any change. But limited accessibility in the existing online system has forced most to visit local immigration offices in person and submit paper forms.

Under the revamped system, foreigners will be able to report employment details through the HiKorea government portal. Those applying to extend their stay or change visa status will also be able to submit employment information at the time of booking an immigration office appointment.

After completing initial foreigner registration, users will likewise be able to report changes in employment online.

The ministry said it plans to manage and analyze the data more systematically to prevent potential labor-market disruptions and ensure foreign employment does not adversely affect job opportunities for Korean citizens.
