Forest Visits Boost Satisfaction with Life

SEOUL, Oct. 23 (Korea Bizwire)The more frequently one visit forests, the more satisfied one is with one’s life.

According to a survey of 2,624 Koreans aged 19 or older conducted by the Korea Forest Research Institute (KFRI), 76.5 percent of the respondents were found to be satisfied with life if they visited forests nearby their house once to twice a week.

The respondents were 9.8 percent more satisfied with life compared to those who did not visit the forest at all.

The survey also showed that roughly 50 percent of Koreans visit the forest more than once or twice a month.

Among the activities enjoyed in the forest, 76.8 percent were hiking, forest bathing and strolling, followed by relaxation, meditation, and appreciating the scenery.

When considering the results by age, the frequency of forest visits increased as age increased.

“Visiting the forest frequently and engaging in various hands-on activities further contributes to improving personal life satisfaction,” said Yoo Ri-hwa, a researcher at the KFRI.
