SEOUL, Sept. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – After a serious egg contamination scandal that shook the confidence of South Korea consumers, gift sets of free-range eggs from animal-friendly farms have appeared at department stores, marking the first time eggs are being considered as a Chuseok gift.
Lotte Department Store, one of the country’s major department store chains, announced on Wednesday at its main branch in Myeong-dong that it was releasing Chuseok gift sets consisting of ethical egg products grown on animal-friendly farms, a move considered to be in direct response to the recent egg contamination scandal.
The egg products unveiled on Wednesday were part of a collaboration with South Korean egg producer Fourfree, with the eggs supplied from an animal-friendly farm located in Boseong County in South Jeolla Province.
Consisting of three packs of 10 eggs, the set is priced at 25,500 won.
It’s the first time in the retail industry for eggs to be commercialized with links to Chuseok, one of the biggest holidays in South Korea.
