SEOUL, Nov. 25 (Korea Bizwire) — Convenience store chain Emart24 said Wednesday that it has introduced an emergency detection system and cigarette vending machines at its fully automated Smart Coex store in southern Seoul to maximize security and convenience.
The emergency detection system is capable of detecting various emergencies including customers collapsing or property damage via smart cameras installed throughout the store.
The artificial intelligence (AI) system is also capable of recognizing human voices calling for help.
Once the system detects an emergency, the AI chatbot sends out a voice notification throughout the store. If the situation continues for more than 10 seconds, a notification is sent to the store manager or the control center for an immediate response.
In addition, the newly introduced Sparos Smart Shelf sells cigarettes only to customers with proper adult authorization.
Customers are required to go through a self-identification process for adult authorization, after which the shelf is unlocked for the customer to remove their product of choice, which is automatically paid for as soon as the shelf is closed.
Emart24’s Smart Coex Store, which opened in September of last year, is an unmanned, fully automated convenience store that uses a variety of retail technology, allowing customers to simply grab what they need and leave the store with payment processed automatically.
