SEOUL, Mar. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai’s premium Genesis brand has unveiled a blackout edition of its flagship G90 sedan, bathing the luxurious model in what the company calls “the primordial color” to evoke a sense of refined mystique.
Dubbed the Genesis G90 Black, the range-topping trim focuses on elevating the aesthetic of South Korea’s most upscale sedan through the dramatic use of black hues meant to convey authority and allure.
To mark the launch, Genesis hosted a media preview at its dedicated Genesis Suji gallery in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on March 14. In front of the displayed G90, the automaker set up a tea ceremony space inspired by the car’s design where guests could savor a custom black tea blend.
An art salon themed “The Sublimity of Black” showcased works by Korean monochrome painters Chung Chang-Sup and Yoon Hyong-Keun, whose paintings captured the depth, elegance and exploration of the human essence that Genesis sought to achieve with the G90 Black.
Staying true to the “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy, Genesis incorporated blacks of varying shades throughout the exterior and interior to create a sculptural, multi-dimensional effect.
Genesis’ signature crest grille design features a solid black fill instead of chrome for a more refined look, complemented by an all-black custom wheel design with floating covers and black brake calipers. Black accents replace exterior chrome trim, including the side moldings, garnishes and door handles.
At the rear, the trunk’s ‘GENESIS’ lettering takes on a metallic dark gray finish, while nameplate and drivetrain badging have been removed for a streamlined aesthetic with the lower bumper unified in black.
Inside, Genesis sought harmony between varying shades of black and the interplay of exterior light flowing into the cabin. The steering wheel emblem, electronic shift dial, integrated controller and other trim pieces utilize black aluminum and dark gray finishes.
But the interior’s pièce de résistance is the “G-Matrix” pattern adorning surfaces like the door garnishes — a brass-toned geometric motif inspired by the intricate metalwork of traditional Korean furniture hinges and corner guards.
Prioritizing sustainable materials, the G90 Black incorporates recycled fibers derived from scrapped tires for its rich black leather upholstery, treated with eco-friendly rice bran wax coating and natural softeners extracted from flaxseed oil. Even the headrest backs and console surfaces repurpose leather off-cuts from the manufacturing process.
