SEOUL, Feb. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — Genesis, the luxury brand of Hyundai Motor Co., said Thursday that it had opened electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in metropolitan areas and launched a wireless charging service on a trial basis.
A total of five charging stations will be set up, including two each at the Genesis exhibition halls in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province and one at the Hyundai Motor Studio in Goyang.
Each EV charging station will be equipped with two wired chargers.
Among them, three charging stations will have one wireless charger each that would enable users to charge their EVs simply by parking their cars on the charging pads installed on the floor.
With a charging capacity of 11 kilowatts the wireless charger can fully charge a Genesis GV60 within eight hours (77.4 kilowatt-hour). It offers a similar charging speed to the wired home charger that Genesis currently provides to its EV clients.
During the trial service period, Genesis plans to expand the number of wireless chargers to about 75 through collaboration with partner companies.
Genesis plans to verify the feasibility of the wireless charging project by 2023 and build up data needed for the establishment of an operational system.
