GIMHAE, Mar. 5 (Korea Bizwire) –The city of Gimhae in South Gyeongsang Province, home to over 20,000 registered foreign nationals, announced on March 4 its commitment to facilitating the stable settlement of foreign residents and multicultural families through a variety of supportive measures.
The city has decided to extend its foundational learning support for multicultural children, previously available only to preschool and lower-grade elementary students, to include upper-grade elementary students as well.
Additionally, a new initiative will provide education activity funds to multicultural students from low to middle-income families in elementary, middle, and high schools.
To improve the employment prospects and self-reliance of marriage immigrants, Gimhae is introducing tailored job support programs.
These include pre-employment education such as basic Korean language and vocational training, followed by the establishment of vocational training courses aligned with market demand to aid marriage immigrants in securing employment and achieving independence.
This month, with its selection for the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s project to support the regional settlement of foreign workers, Gimhae will inaugurate a support center for foreign workers.
This new center will replace the functions of the Gimhae Foreign Workers Support Center, which was closed last year, and will carry out counseling and education for foreign workers with a budget of 400 million won allocated for this year.
Moreover, the city plans to offer Korean language education programs targeting foreign workers residing in industrial areas such as Jinyeong, Jinrye, and Hallim.
Gimhae is also set to develop counseling interpreters, organize Mini World Cups for foreign residents, and provide one-on-one mentoring for children of foreign residents as part of its comprehensive support policies for foreign nationals and multicultural families.
