“Golden Dog” in Rice Paddy Artwork in the Making

golden dog

Jun 30 (Korea Bizwire) – A vivid image of a giant dog is slowly taking shape in a rice paddy in front of Munkwang reservoir in Goesan county, a picturesque village and one of the most popular destinations among the local photographers.

This ‘golden dog’ artwork was designed by Goesan county to celebrate the year of the Golden Dog according to the 12-year zodiac cycle. The county is in North Chungcheong province, in the center of South Korea.

This is not the first time that a rice paddy artwork has been created – in 2008, Goesan county presented a “Nongak Nori” or South Korean farm music play in a rice paddy with a favorable reaction from the public.

Even favorably noticed by the local press, the county tried various rice paddy artworks on a yearly basis – “Sun Wukong,” a monkey king who can spell magic words (a main character in the 16th century Chinese classical novel Journey to the West), “Horse Flying High,” and “Black Dragon.”
