SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. has succeeded in greatly improving the learning speed of its voice-powered digital assistant Bixby by adopting Google Cloud.
The Bixby service was upgraded in April with a new engine that enables a significant improvement in the speed of data recognition and the accuracy in learning results, while adopting Google Cloud’s customized machine learning solution ‘Cloud TPU.’
On the back of such upgrades, Bixby shortened the learning processing time to 10 hours from about 180 hours, with its processing speed 18 times faster than the previous version.
Google said that the application of Cloud TPU, which is best-optimized for core calculation of deep learning, enabled Bixby to process sound recognition data fast enough to cope with the recent surge in the amount of such data along with the expansion of Bixby’s foreign language services.
“By using Cloud TPU through collaboration with Google, we succeeded in upgrading Bixby’s model learning stage into a fast and expandable structure.” said Woo Kyoung-gu, corporate vice president of the AI R&D group at Samsung Electronics.
