SEOUL, March 19 (Korea Bizwire) — Food ingredient data will be developed and managed in the form of national standards, aimed at making it easier for such data to be used for the customized management of personal diet and the development of related services, a government technology standards agency said Thursday.
The Korea Agency for Technology and Standards under the industry ministry announced that it had designated the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences as the National Food Ingredient Data Center responsible for providing national certified core data needed for the formulation of national health and nutrition policy and standardization policy.
Starting from 2019, the institute’s website has disclosed nutritional ingredient data for 3,088 types of food that Koreans consume.
From now on, a variety of scientifically-analyzed food ingredient data will be developed and accumulated, while the partnership between private, public and municipal governments will be promoted through the National Food Ingredient Data Center.
Such data can be used for public health management, the dietary management for meals at elementary, middle and high schools, and food ingredient data-based customized diet services.
In addition, the new standards will also contribute to the better understanding of the nutrition intake state of Koreans, dietary management for chronic disease patients, the adjustment of food supply and demand, and the digital-based development of the food industry.
