SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Korea Bizwire)The government has put together a blueprint for the establishment of infrastructure for smart logistics, the land and transport ministry said Monday.

The government plans to support private technology development and demonstration, as well as to cultivate a testbed dedicated to logistics to ensure early commercialization of unmanned deliveries, including robot and drone deliveries.

It also plans to set up institutional foundations on a gradual basis, among others, the legalization of unmanned deliveries and the establishment of safety standards.

In the first half of this year, the government plans to form a public-private consultative body composed of a variety of companies from different sectors, including logistics, online platforms and IT, to explore new business models.

To enable artificial intelligence (AI) and big data-based ultra-fast delivery, the government plans to allow the establishment of micro fulfillment centers in urban areas.

It also plans to designate pilot zones where self-driving trucks can operate by the end of this year and prepare safety standards by next year.

An underground logistics transport system using urban railways will be established by 2027.
