SEOUL, June 17 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Science and ICT said Thursday that it had launched a pilot project to enable universities and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to share ultra-large artificial intelligence (AI) models developed by large companies.
Ultra-large AI refers to next-generation AI technology that uses large-capacity data and supercomputing infrastructure to greatly expand the scale of AI to hundreds of billions or trillions of parameters.
Using ultra-large AI models, it’s possible to realize professional jobs such as news writing, literature and art creation, emotional analysis and conversations at a high level like humans.
Starting last month, the ministry frequently invited suppliers and users to participate in the trial service. So far, the cloud affiliate of South Korea’s leading internet portal operator Naver Corp. is the only supplier designated for this service.
By using its supersized AI platform HyperCLOVA, Naver Cloud plans to allow users to use AI functions such as conversations, Q&A, summaries, text creation and changes in an application programming interface (API) format.
The ministry plans to review the idea of expanding the coverage of support to SMEs based on the results of the trial operation by August.
