SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Korea Bizwire)The government has revised a law to enable rapid diagnosis of aquatic life disease through simple test kits.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries on Thursday announced advance legislation notice for the revision of the Aquatic Life Disease Control Act.

The act was revised to strengthen the diagnosis and response to aquatic life diseases.

Simple test kits have been developed and distributed mainly by private companies. However, they have been used as an auxiliary means to diagnose the disease of aquatic life due to the lack of a legal foundation.

Against this backdrop, the ministry decided to establish legal grounds to enable simple test kits to be used in the field after passing the performance verification.

The legal grounds would enable the order of quarantine or travel restrictions to be made depending on test results.

In addition, any foreign company which plans to export aquatic life to South Korea should register their production facilities with the government.

If needed, their production facilities can be checked directly by South Korean authorities through consultation with their counterparts in the export country.
