SEOUL, Sept. 24 (Korea Bizwire)An online compilation of a variety of Goryeo Buddhist paintings currently owned by museums in the United States has recently been published.

The Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) announced on Monday that it has opened a website titled ‘Goryeo Buddhist Painting: A Closer Look’ that introduces 16 Buddhist artworks created during the Goryeo dynasty currently held by eight U.S. museums.

This is the first time that an archive of South Korean cultural heritage that remain overseas has been compiled.

The website (archive.asia.si.edu/publications/goreyo/) is composed of the artwork, artist, comment, bibliography, and a thesaurus on various symbols.

Clicking on the image of the painting allows the user to access a variety of information on the artwork.

The website can be easily accessed via Google Chrome, and high-resolution photos are available for all artworks owned by the Freer Gallery of Art.

“After seven years of working with the Smithsonian Institution’s Freer Gallery of Art, we have managed to create an online compilation of the Goryeo Buddhist paintings,” said an official at CHA.
