SEOUL, Dec. 2 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said Wednesday that it will simplify the identification check procedure for ferry users, enabling them to use mobile identification cards as part of efforts to minimize passenger inconvenience.

Thus far, passengers needed to hold physical identification cards for both ticketing and boarding.

To address this inconvenience, the government plans to allow them to use not only physical photo identification cards but also mobile identification cards for ticketing and boarding, starting from Thursday.

When it comes to adolescents with no identification cards, interviews with their guardians or accompanied teachers will be used as a way to check their identification.

The ministry also plans to expand the application of the simplified boarding process system that seven municipal governments currently operate to enhance the convenience of residents of island areas who frequently use passenger ships.

Under this system, users can register their photos with the municipal government in their jurisdiction. The officials in charge of ticketing and boarding can issue tickets and allow them to board simply by checking their pre-registered photos.
