SEOUL, Feb. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean solar panel makers and importers will face extra charges if they fail to fulfill their recycling obligations, starting from January 2023.
The Ministry of Environment announced on Thursday that it would make an advance legislation notice on the partial revision of subordinate laws in three resource circulation areas.
Under the revision, the nation’s solar panel makers, importers and sellers who fail to comply with their collection obligations would face recycling or collection charges.
The recycling charge is set at 727 won (US$0.61) per kilogram and the collection charge is set at 94 won per kilogram.
Solar panels will be classified separately from existing electric and electronic items (51 kinds) that are subject to mandatory recycling, given that solar panels are different from them in light of their manufacturers, importers, average usage period, and the channel of discharge.
Accordingly, solar panels will have different quotas in mandatory recycling and collection.
