SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea is preparing to roll out a sweeping plan this year to boost exports of its consumer goods, riding a wave of global enthusiasm for Korean food, beauty, and fashion, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources said Wednesday.
Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo outlined the strategy in a meeting with executives from leading Korean companies, including online fashion platform Musinsa, e-commerce giant Coupang, and health-and-beauty retailer CJ Olive Young.
The discussion centered on how to harness the growing appeal of Korean culture to strengthen the nation’s export base beyond its traditional industrial mainstays.
SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — The ministry said the new strategy will likely focus on positioning Korean consumer products as premium brands in global markets, tackling export-related challenges such as logistics and certification, and establishing global online marketplaces dedicated to Korean-made goods.
“Our distribution platforms are vital bridges connecting overseas consumers with Korean products,” Yeo said, adding that consumer goods could serve as a new growth engine for an export economy long driven by semiconductors, automobiles, and heavy industry.
